Situated in West Lancashire, Parbold is located approximately 4 miles from junction 27 of the M6 motorway and as such provides an ideal commuter village.
Dating from around the late 17th century, Common House and Manor Cottage are examples of old stone properties within the village. Within Mill Lane there are examples of traditional Victorian and turn of the century terraced properties with further older style semi-detached houses along Station Road. More recent construction can be found in such areas as West View containing houses from the 1960s to 1970s whilst within the Broadmead locality can be found a large area of semi-detached and detached family housing built around the same period.
Furthermore in and around Parbold you can find large individual detached houses. Miry Lane provides examples of these with salubrious gated residences, whilst Tan House Lane offers a further variety.
For those looking for something a little less opulent there are a number of purpose built flats such as those within the development at Mid Leaf Close, commanding views over the Leeds to Liverpool Canal.
For a quaint village location Parbold contains a good range of amenities and facilities which are in the main found along Mill Lane, Station Road and entering into The Common. Here you will find a McColls newsagents/supermarket, various hairdressers/beauty salons, a DIY shop, a delicatessen, off-licence, a post office and takeaway shops.
Further facilities include a doctors surgery, a library, a dentist surgery and RBS bank alongside Regan and Hallworth estate agents. Of course a more extensive range of amenities and high street retailers can be found within neighbouring towns such as Ormskirk and Wigan with in particular the Galleries and Grand Arcade Shopping Centres providing an ideal destination.
In terms of places to eat and drink, the village offers a number of public houses/hotels such as the Railway Hotel, the Stocks Tavern, and the Windmill Hotel.
The Parbold Village Festival is being held in July at Parbold Douglas School and hosts a variety of dance competitions and displays as well as offering entertainers and stalls.
Parbold Village Hall is set on The Green. Consisting of two rooms, the main hall is ideal for hosting weddings, parties, musical performances and other functions. The small room is home to the pre-school nursery and provides a venue for fundraising events. Parbold Picture House is locally renowned and is run from the main hall and coordinated by the Parbold Community Association offering big screen films.
The historic 18th century windmill situated along Mill Lane in Parbold is now home to the artist James Bartholomew RSMA. Being his main exhibition space and studio, there are three entire floors of paintings and limited edition prints.
Formed in 1994, the local amateur football team, Parbold FC have proved to be very successful in their league. Other leisure groups available within the locality include badminton, brownies, a drama group, rambling and dancing.
The Equestrian Centre located on Bradshaw Lane contains a large selection of horses and a team of professional and friendly staff. Set in 15 acres of farmland it has facilities which are not only for the experienced rider but also welcome the absolute beginner.
Set approximately 120 metres above sea level and dominating the village is Parbold Hill. Not only does it provide an excellent vantage point across the surrounding countryside it also is home to the stone monument Parbold Bottle which has recently been restored.
Situated on the outskirts of Skelmersdale is Beacon Country Park. Consisting of 300 acres of rolling countryside, the country park attracts numerous visitors for varying reasons. It contains natural habitats of meadows and woodlands and enjoys commanding views across the surrounding countryside. Additionally the park provides opportunities to enjoy sporting activities such as walking, running, cycling as well as the Golf Course nearby.
