Mawdesley is recorded as being an “extensive and fertile township between Croston and Wrightington” and this is still true today, nestling in the picturesque Lancashire countryside. History tells us that the town of Mawdesley gained its name as part of a dowry of one Matilda-Mawde when she married – and thus the town was born.
