Wigan's red phone boxes given grade II listing.

DID YOU KNOW. English Heritage has given some 2,000 phone boxes Grade II listing: 'where they have a strong visual relationship with more than one listed building, or are in a setting of special significance'. We have two listed phone boxes in Wigan.  The designer of the ubiquitous Kiosk No 6, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, didn't choose the red colour. He wanted the boxes to be painted silver in cities and dove-grey in the country. For more information click the link.

You will find the two K6 Telephone kiosks adjacent to the Springfield public house and adjacent to the North east corner of The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
